School Based Social Worker $65,000-$70,000

The SNUG School-Based Social Worker will be a dedicated professional employed by the Family and Children's Association (FCA) and primarily stationed within a local school.  There will also be after-school work conducted in the SNUG office. This role involves closely collaborating with school administrators, teachers, and SNUG community-based gun violence prevention program staff to identify and support students at the highest risk for involvement in gun violence. The primary objective is to provide specialized services and resources, ensuring that these students receive the necessary support to redirect their life trajectories away from violence.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Work closely with identified students and their families, offering therapeutic services and support to address their specific needs.
  • Mediate conflicts between students before, promoting a peaceful and respectful school environment.
  • Collaborate with school staff to create a trauma-informed learning environment, ensuring that all students feel safe, understood, and supported.
  • Provide immediate support to students and their families in the aftermath of violent incidents, offering emotional support and connecting them with appropriate services.
  • Collaborate with school administrators to develop and implement individualized plans for at-risk students, focusing on academic success, emotional well-being, and future opportunities.
  • Participate in training sessions provided by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (NYS DCJS) and FCA, ensuring proficiency in the SNUG model, restorative practices, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed care.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of interactions with students and families, documenting progress, challenges, and interventions provided.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Social Work or related field required.
  • Licensure required.
  • Experience working with at-risk youth, preferably in a school setting.
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking required.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License with a safe and responsible driving history.

Schedule:

  • Full-time, 35 hours per week (Monday-Friday), occasional evening and weekend hours as needed.  This is a year-round position that is not based on the school calendar.
