SOS Social Work Intern (Unpaid)

Program Summary:

The FCA Safe Observant Senior Program provides support to elder abuse crime victims over the age of 60 who reside in Nassau County.  Services include a weekly support group when appropriate, resource connections, short term crisis counseling, and criminal justice navigation/advocacy.

Primary Responsibilities include:

Social Work Intern will assist case managers/counselors with the client intake process, development and implementation of case management goals, linkage to support services, support group facilitation, and in-home counseling. The ideal candidate will be a 1st year MSW intern with intermediate MS Office computer skills and experience working with older adults. Excel proficiency and knowledge of Nassau County resources/legal systems is a plus. The intern may be required to conduct in-home visits in the future. A valid New York State driver's license with a safe and responsible driving history is required in addition to a motor vehicle that is properly registered and insured with New York State.

Qualifications and Requirements include:

  • 1st Year Master of Social Work (MSW) student
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office Skills
  • Valid New York State driver's license with a safe and responsible driving history to conduct home/field visits
  • Vehicle that is properly registered and insured by New York State and is available for use to conduct home/field visits
  • Bilingual Spanish a plus


  • Opportunity available NOW and during the 2022/2023 Academic School Year (Summer 2022, Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 Semesters)
  • 14-21 Hours Weekly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays; Tuesday evenings from 4-6pm required.
  • Blended Work (Remote & On-Site Assignments)

  • LMSW, Willing to Complete SIFI
  • MSW
