Program Summary:

The Immigrant Resource Center provides immigrants and refugees with a broad array of case management, family support, and eased access for legal help, counseling with critical immigrant concerns. The Lynn Vanderhall Nursery Co-op provides short-term childcare for children ages 2-5 years old and case management for parents seeking help with substance use, mental health, employment, education/vocation training or fulfillment of other needs in pursuit of self-sufficiency and family stability.

Primary Responsibilities include:

The Nursery Co-op intern will assist with planning and curriculum presentation of appropriate activities in the classroom, completing written child observations and child assessments as instructed, and maintaining required forms and records. They will interact and provide strength-based services to nursery children, in addition to bilingual case management services to help families access community resources. The intern must demonstrate proficiency in English and Spanish in order to carry out all essential functions/responsibilities of a Bilingual Assistant Teacher - Early Childhood Education. This intern must be culturally sensitive to the plight and hardship of the immigrant community. The ideal candidate will be resourceful and flexible. A valid New York State driver's license with a safe and responsible driving history is required in addition to a motor vehicle that is properly registered and insured with New York State. The intern will be required to transport clients in an agency vehicle.

Qualifications and Requirements include:

  • Undergraduate (Junior or Senior Level) or Graduate (Masters Level) Student Majoring in Early Childhood Education or Education
  • Valid New York State driver's license with a safe and responsible driving history to transport clients in an agency vehicle
  • Bilingual Spanish Required

Schedule:

  • Opportunity available during the Summer 2022 semester and/or 2022/2023 Academic School Year (Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 Semesters)
  • 14-21 Hours Weekly
  • Weekdays between 9am - 5pm; Some evening hours may be required for workshops
  • On-Site Work Required
