Residential Counselor

Location: Hempstead, NY | Schedule: Full time 40 hours | Status: Non-Exempt |Salary Range: $20.35/hour

The Opportunity

Supervise, assist and support the residents and maintain a therapeutic environment that ensures the effective and efficient delivery of services in accordance with regulatory and Agency requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and direct counseling to residents.
  • Employ trauma-sensitive practices.
  • Ensure that the program is operating in compliance with all regulatory, agency, and funding requirements. This includes conducting security checks, fire drills and attending to your assigned post.
  • Promote independence by assisting and supporting Residents in day-to-day activities, personal care, skills building, community integration and providing counseling around everyday activities.
  • Support Resident's compliance with treatment plans.
  • Supervise residents with daily activities, recreational activities, wakeups, and other client needs.
  • Monitor and complete all household chores and ensure meals are prepared daily.
  • Conduct goal sessions (Medicaid billable services) and document progress in chart via electronic record.
  • Complete required paperwork (including but not limited to comprehensive medical billable case notes, progress notes, timesheets, logs, etc.) accurately and thoroughly and submit by the required deadlines.
  • Attend all required internal meetings, mandatory trainings, and participate in supervision.
  • Ensure the medication management procedures are properly followed.
  • Manage crises and emergency situations.
  • Transport residents in agency vehicles when needed to and from appointments, recreational activities, household errands or as otherwise required.
  • Collaborate with the Program Coordinator as to program, facility and client needs.
  • Assume other tasks and responsibilities assigned to ensure the effective operation of the program.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED with 5 years' experience in human services related field Associate's degree in in human services related field and 3 years related experience
  • Bachelor's degree in human services related field. Bachelor's degree preferred.
