Student Intern (PI Suffolk)

FCA is excited to announce an opportunity for the position of Student Intern. As we continue to grow and evolve, we are seeking a Student Intern to support our Project Independence Program in Suffolk County.

Project Independence is designed to help young people between the ages of 14-21 who are in foster care, or discharged from foster care, to live and work independently in the community when they are no longer eligible for foster care. In our comprehensive non-residential program, we also work closely with foster parents. Home visits and supportive services are offered; foster parent training and support groups are provided throughout the year.

Responsibilities

  • Student Intern will education and develop independent living skills in foster care children referred by the Department of Social Services in accordance with agency and regulatory requirements to ensure the highest quality of client care.
  • Conduct monthly home and community visits.
  • Assist in developing and facilitating Independent Living Skills Workshops.
  • Complete a Step Up Independent Living assessment and treatment plan in partnership with client, foster family and caseworker.
  • Complete and maintain client case records in a timely manner and in compliance with the agency and other regulatory standards.
  • Complete all required reports, correspondence and other paperwork and submit by the requested deadlines.
  • Coordinate service efforts with DSS caseworker regarding client's plan.
  • Attend conferences, trainings and workshops as appropriate.


Qualifications:

  • MSW Generalist (1st year): 15 hours/week or MSW Specialized (2nd year): 15 hours/week
  • Relevant knowledge and/or experience working with high need individuals/families.
  • Proficient computer skills with MS Office
  • Valid and clean driver's license.

Schedule:

Flexible-M/F based on program needs. Wednesday nights are required.
