Location: Hauppauge, NY | Schedule: FT Monday-Friday | Status: Non-Exempt |Salary Range: $26.26/hour

The Opportunity

The Gambling Recovery Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating gambling prevention, harm reduction, recovery support, and educational services within THRIVE Recovery Centers and throughout the community. This role provides peer-based support, facilitates workshops and support groups, conducts community outreach, and collaborates with partners to increase awareness of gambling-related harms and available resources. The Coordinator serves as a subject matter resource on problem gambling and works to ensure individuals and families impacted by gambling have access to recovery supports, treatment referrals, and community-based services.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver problem gambling prevention, recovery support, and educational programming at THRIVE Recovery Centers and throughout the community.
  • Provide one-on-one peer support, mentoring, and recovery coaching to individuals and family members impacted by gambling-related harms, utilizing a strengths-based and recovery-oriented approach.
  • Facilitate workshops, support groups, trainings, and presentations focused on gambling harms, recovery pathways, financial wellness, and related wellness topics.
  • Conduct community outreach and public awareness activities to increase understanding of gambling-related harms and available prevention, treatment, harm reduction, and recovery resources.
  • Administer and promote the use of OASAS-approved gambling screening tools and ensure appropriate referrals are made to treatment, financial counseling, recovery support services, and other community resources.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with treatment providers, Problem Gambling Resource Centers, GamFin, community organizations, educational institutions, and other referral partners.
  • Coordinate and support gambling-focused recovery initiatives, mutual aid opportunities, recovery-friendly social activities, and awareness campaigns within THRIVE and the broader community.
  • Maintain current gambling-related educational materials, resources, and recovery supports at THRIVE locations and ensure staff and volunteers are aware of available services.
  • Collect and maintain accurate data related to participant engagement, screenings, referrals, outcomes, outreach activities, and program performance; complete all required monthly and funder reports.
  • Collaborate with THRIVE leadership to identify community needs, evaluate program effectiveness, and develop innovative strategies to expand gambling recovery services.
  • Participate in agency meetings, professional development opportunities, and OASAS-required trainings to maintain current knowledge of problem gambling trends, best practices, and recovery supports.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with OMH regulations, agency policies, and facility procedures.
  • Collaborate and communicate with on-call, clinical, and residential staff as needed.
  • Report significant observations that may impact treatment planning or resident safety.
  • Transport residents in agency vehicles when required.
  • Participate in mandatory trainings, meetings, and supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field preferred.
  • Certificates or Licenses: CRPA, CRPA-P, CRPA-G, CARC, or equivalent peer credential required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience: Lived experience with gambling-related harms, recovery, or impacted family experience strongly preferred.
