Weekend Evening Counselor (PT)

Location: Wantagh, NY | Schedule: Part-Time, Saturday & Sunday, 4:00 PM-12:00 AM| Status: Non-Exempt |Salary Range: $19.83/hour

Opportunity

The Weekend Counselor provides direct supervision, crisis intervention, and basic residential support to runaway and homeless youth during weekend shifts. The position ensures youth safety, maintains structure and routine, and supports daily living activities in accordance with state regulations and agency policies.

  • Provide direct supervision, support, and crisis intervention to youth in the shelter
  • Maintain a safe, structured, environment through consistent engagement and enforcement of program expectations.
  • Support youth with daily living responsibilities, including chores, curfews, hygiene, and program expectations.
  • Reinforce basic independent living skills within daily interactions, including communication, self-care, and responsibility
  • Assist with intake, eligibility screening, and orientation of new youth as assigned.
  • Conduct routine safety and security checks of the residence and report concerns to supervisory staff.
  • Participate in fire drills, inspections, and emergency preparedness activities.
  • Assist with light housekeeping and maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment.
  • Prepare meals and ensure youth have access to food and basic necessities.
  • Provide transportation support for youth to approved program-related appointments and activities as directed and in accordance with agency policy.
  • Assist with medication-related support for youth when applicable, in accordance with agency policies, regulations, and supervisory direction.
  • Maintain accurate and timely shift logs, incident reports, and required documentation.
  • Communicate observations, safety concerns, and incidents to supervisory staff in a timely manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with mandated reporting requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education: HS diploma or GED, Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience:
  • A minimum of two years’ full time experience working with youth/young adults.
  • At least 1 year experience working in a residential setting preferred.
  • Valid New York State driving license with a safe and responsible driving history. Active defensive driving certificate of completion. Ability to drive the agency van.
