Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct diagnostic assessments and diagnose clients according to DSM-5 criteria.  Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications.
  • Provide clinical services that are culturally competent and sensitive to the racial and ethnic backgrounds of the community served.
  • Collaborate with the clinicians on client treatment and provide education on both medical and mental health topics.
  • Coordinate care with outside physical and mental health providers when necessary.
  • Assume responsibilities as the Health Coordinator which includes conducting health assessments on clients and providing health related education both individually and in groups to clients.
  • Maintain medical records in compliance with mandated regulations.

Qualifications and Requirements include:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • New York State Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry.
  • DEA certification.
  • Minimum of 1 year Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner experience working in an outpatient or inpatient chemical dependency program.
  • Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office.


  • Part-time, 15 hours per week divided between the 2 locations (Hempstead and Hicksville).
  • Schedule is flexible but requires some evening hours.
