The Opportunity

The Senior Financial Counselor provides information, counseling, advocacy, and options to consumers facing financial and housing crises. The Financial Counselor engages in community outreach and education to help people prepare for retirement, address financial challenges and access benefits.

Responsibilities

• Provide counseling, information, advocacy, and options to consumers seeking assistance in the areas of foreclosure, mortgage delinquency/default, consumer debt, budgeting, property tax preparation and income tax preparation (when currently certified). Assist seniors with financial related paperwork, for example, housing applications.
• Attend appropriate training and develop and maintain an up-to-date resource file for own use and to be shared with other SFC staff
• Create functional budgets for consumers.
• Use database appropriate to financial counseling programs
• Keep accurate and current statistics and create intake assessments for every client.
• Assist client with completing applications for entitlements.
• Create and participate in community education and training workshops related to retirement planning, addressing debt and financial challenges and entitlement education.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting and Business required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills with MS Office.
• Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Valid and clean driver's license required.
