Part-Time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Location: Hempstead/Hicksville, NY (Split between both locations)| Schedule: Part Time, 28 hours per week, weekday evenings and Saturday Mornings|Status: non-exempt |Salary Range:$82.00-$102/Hour


The Opportunity

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, and medication management to children, adolescents, and adults experiencing behavioral health needs or crisis. This position is part of FCA's Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) team and delivers integrated mental health, substance use, and medical services in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. 

The Psychiatric NP will be responsible for conducting psychiatric evaluations, prescribing medications (including MAT for opioid use disorder), ordering lab tests and toxicology screenings, providing medication education, and participating in treatment planning.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments to identify mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders.
  • Assess treatment needs, prognostic factors, and safety risks, including potential harm to the self or others.
  • Provide ongoing psychiatric medication management, including prescribing, monitoring effectiveness, and adjusting treatment as needed.
  • Initiate and maintain MOUD and other substance use disorder medications, order relevant labs, and administer injectable psychiatric medications when clinically indicated.
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of individualized, person-centered treatment plans and authorize them per requirements. 
  • Educate clients and families about medications.
  • Work collaboratively with physicians, primary care providers, and multidisciplinary CCBHC teams to support integrated behavioral and physical healthcare. 
  • Offer psychiatric consultation, participate in team meetings, and coordinate care with internal and external providers.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in the EHR, including assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, and prescriptions. 
  • Provide timely crisis intervention services through in-person or telehealth support.
  • Assume other tasks, projects, and responsibilities assigned to support the operations of the program.

 

Qualifications:

  • NYS License in Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current DEA and NPI registration
  • Experience working with children.
  • Experience with addiction medicine.
  • Experience with psychiatric evaluations, psychopharmacology, MATs.
  • Experience working with people with serious mental illness, substance use, and co-occurring disorders.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
