Director of Finance

The Opportunity

The Director of Accounting will be responsible for oversight of accounts payable and General Ledger accounting activities. The Accounting Director will lead the daily finance operations and ensure that systems and procedures are in place to support effective program operations.


Responsibilities

  • Supervision of Payroll Administrator, Accounting Generalist, Accounts Payable Specialist, Accounts Receivable Specialist and Fiscal Assistants.
  • Perform monthly closing of accounting records; accounts payable , balance sheet review, expense review.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledge ensuring that accounting processes are in compliance with GAAP, private and government regulations and procedures.
  • Monitor Agency operational cash requirements.
  • Ensure coverage of AP, Payroll and General Ledger job functions during vacations etc. by 100% staff cross training.
  • Serve as system administrator for accounting applications, and on-line banking system.
  • Assist all Fiscal and non Fiscal staff in Netsuite process , training and issues.
  • Assist with external audits.
  • Leverage the strength of current fiscal team members and develop and implement training programs to maximize and reach individual and organizational goals
  • Work with Human Resources Director to handle all other related issues such as over time payment, pension, unemployment, time and leave, subpoenas, garnishments, advance loan to employee, etc.
  • Work with VP's, Directors to resolve any fiscal issues: billing, statistic, revenue, deposits, banking, payroll, time-off , financial reporting.
  • Assist CFO/ Controller in organizing, developing and implementing the dept's policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the development of electronic tools to improve department performance.
  • Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications at all levels and promoting a positive and supportive work environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field; CPA and/or MBA preferred
  • Seven to ten years of accounting and finance experience
  • Experience in reporting financial information
  • Experience in a complex nonprofit with multiple programs
